Opti-Num Solutions is looking for an experienced sales manager, familiar with Solution and Insight Selling to lead the team responsible for selling MATLAB and Simulink and other MathWorks software tools, and related training and consulting services in Southern Africa. We are looking for a strategically-minded, motivated individual with strong analytical skills and a passion for leading-edge technology who will not only lead the sales team but who will also actively contribute to the strategic direction of the business.


The Sales Manager is responsible for hiring, training, coaching and overall growth of the Business Development Consultants (sales representatives), and for developing programs and campaigns to enhance the sales performance of the Team. The Sales Manager will have a particular focus on new business generation and will address the market potential and sales strategies required to balance the sales focus on existing account development and the pursuit of new business, particularly in small and medium size enterprises and within emerging market segments. The Sales Manager will also be responsible for managing and developing people and programs to leverage the Education segment of The MathWorks’ business.

Specific responsibilities of the Sales Manager include defining and evaluating meaningful performance metrics for the team, key account planning, sales campaign planning and analysis, forecasting, facilitating sales and funnel meetings and attending customer meetings. Additional time will be spent collaborating and strategizing with Application Engineering, Consulting and Marketing. Travel within Southern Africa and occasional travel to the US and Europe is required.

The Sales Manager is a member of the company management team and as such is responsible for working with the team to provide strategic input into the business as a whole. This includes providing market insights, setting priorities, revenue planning, budgeting and innovating within a dynamic, small business environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3 years sales management experience, particularly involving the use of formal sales processes is required
  • Experience selling technical solutions, specifically involving technical software and services is preferred
  • Exposure to Insight Selling is advantageous
  • Bachelors degree required
  • A post-graduate business qualification is advantageous
  • Strong sales planning, negotiating, and account management skills required
  • Demonstrate analytic capabilities and ability to generate sales insights from data
  • Strong written and oral skills required
  • Demonstrate strategic decision-making abilities
  • Spoken fluency in multiple South African languages would be a plus
  • Preference will be given to EE candidates
